Call center In
Outbound by
Jasmin Moeller and Beatrice Puijk
In Outbound was a fictional call center,
initiated by theatre-maker Jasmin Moeller and Beatrice Puijk in 2014. The
call center was set up as a performance at the Kip en Einder theatre-festival in
Rood|Noot, Utrecht, see image 1. Data was collected by calling random inhabitants
of the VINEX area Leidsche Rijn, and ask them questions about their neighbors.
What started with usual questions, ended up with controversial topics which
deal with the privacy of the neighbors. The questions arose: "How do your
neighbors smell?" And "Have you ever touched your neighbors?" to
`How is the marriage of your neighbors? Are your neighbors faithful? Do they
ever have strange people on the floor? What do you think of that? Have you ever
seen them in a shameful moment? If so, how?” The questionary used is a good
example of a fully structured interview. The clients answered the questions,
but couldn’t restructure the interview. Some questions were multiple choice,
some open.
