Pop up! SRV by Bert Kramer and Beatrice
Puijk
Pop up! SRV was
a project that was held in 2015 at the Mercatorsquare in Amsterdam, initiated
by the designer Bert Kramer and curator Beatrice Puijk. The installation
consisted of different movable objects that could be used in multiple ways.
Each morning, over a period of 3 months, the installation was build up. At the
heart of the installation was a transparent space, a blow up, of around 60m2. The goal of the project was to provide a space where something could happen.
Both Kramer and Puijk tried to curate as little as possible, and motivate
people to use the space as they wish. In doing so, the artists tried to use
different techniques, like the open interview. The project is therefore a good
example of an interaction, which is not directed in a certain way, to expect
certain answers, or direct certain actions. Looking back at this project, I
found it one of the most difficult things to do. Building the framework, put a
lot of effort in it and then letting it go. Especially when someone wants to do harm to the project. In the end, after one month, we decided to take over and made it into a semi structured situation.
